Researchers -- General Guidelines

When making requests of volunteers:

  • Make requests specific -- avoid being too general.
  • Make requests ONLY for the volunteer's specified research areas. (Do not ask for out-of-area requests.)
  • Never ask more than one volunteer for the same request.
  • Ask the volunteer what reimbursements they require: copies, gas, parking, etc.
  • Negotiate an estimated completion time ... Remember: volunteers are not "on the clock," may research for multiple people, and respond reasonably as their time permits.

Note: If no volunteer exists for an area, Follow the page, for alerts of page changes.


Help Files and FAQs
Info for Volunteers

NEW (and existing) volunteers, contact: the Wiki Admin with the following information:

  • State:
  • County:
  • Your "display" name: ("Suz-eQ" ... "Sue" ... "Susanna Smith," etc.)
  • Volunteer Services: (Describe your services -- i.e., tombstone photos, obituaries, public records lookups, etc.)
  • Reimbursements (if any) for: gas/mileage, copies, fees, postage, parking, etc.

Note: Always provide researcher with an estimated completion time.

EXISTING volunteers may also Update Your Volunteer Information yourself.)

OREGON Volunteers

The Volunteer table below provides a list of Oregon4 volunteers who will provide research assistance in the specified counties.

County Volunteer's Name Volunteer Services
Polk Arlan Blodgett Will do obits for Salem, OR area (Marion and Polk). The local state library has Portland, OR papers that cover Clackamas/Multnomah/Yamhill/Washington/Columbia in Oregon and Clark/Skamania counties in Washington. I live out of town and charge $5 to cover parking meters/travel expences.
Polk Tami Tombstone photos, obituaries, newspaper articles, public records, information at the county genealogical societies. Reimbursements: None I live in Linn and Benton is very close so I am able to quickly do research in those counties. The others are somewhat further but am willing to go there. The response may be somewhat slower. The Oregon State Archives building is in Marion County so I can do research there.
Washington Eellitta Stone Will do marriage, divorce, death index information and obituary look ups. Will also look for newspaper articles ( from 1865 - December 1987) regarding the person you are looking for. Will also look for obituaries online, from 1987 to the present time. No fees charged.
Washington Shelley Hoffman Obituaries, Gravestone pictures, Public Records (courthouse) lookups and copying. Public Records (library) lookups.
Washington Kristeen Galloway I will do obit look ups for the Portland area which includes Multnomah, Clackamas and Washinton county. I can access from 1900 to present day.
Washington Jennifer Obituaries for the Hillsboro or Hillsboro Independent, 1873-current Hillsboro cemeteries; 3-5 day turn around
Washington Leslie Lawson Cemetery photos; public record lookups; obituaries.
Washington Sherri Harmon Still photos of tombstones.

Must request reimbursement for gas due to high gas prices -- especially for distant or remote locations. Will give approximate reimbursement cost upon initial email contact.

West Marion (Salem area) Eastern Polk Arlan Blodgett Salem Newspaper area - W. Marion/E. Polk Co. Up front fee for expense of copies, photos and postage will be requested. This covers some of my expensives.
